It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a disease?

No, it’s a bird, turns out.

Sean pointed out that if pronounced evenly (Parih-soma, not Paree-soma”), our new space sounds like a disease. Well, it does have that latinate feel – but it turns out parisoma is a bird. A warbler, in fact.

Transparency vs. democracy

Posted on Dec 18, 2007

Name this spaceI’ve worked in nonprofits long enough to know that what many people want out of their jobs is not necessarily democracy, but transparency. I suspect this becomes clearer faster in corporate gigs, since people tend not to sign on to a company in hopes of affecting how the company is run. In nonprofits, however…

Since I’m now working for a “business” I know that people don’t necessarily expect democratic (by this I mean consensus) decisions – but it’s always good business to be transparent about your decisions. So this is a quick post to note that although democratically the name for our new office should be “Le Brouillard” – a sure win for francophiles all over San Francisco, and a sure loser for anyone ever hears it described by any of us for the first time – it is not to be.

We opted for the runner-up, PariSoMa. It was a clear internal favorite already (note the name of the blog), but now it’s official. In the interest of transparenc – and coz it’s a cool image – we show you the final results.

No, thank *you*

We had a good crowd at last night’s Co-Hopping event.  Everyone was thrilled we had an oven (and piping hot hors-d’oeuvres) and real glasses for our wine.  We were thrilled by the crowds, and everyone’s appreciation for all things French (including two American guys who work for a French company).

Some people made the (excellent) observation that part of the benefit of Coworking is the others in the space – and  several people wanted to know what we do specifically, in order to know the potential “cross-pollination.”  Well, if we were to tag PariSoma, it might look like:

Social networks, UI, open source, Drupal, mobile applications, wine, WAP, mapping, bicycles, assistive technologies, entertainment, sports / music / fan portals, multi-lingual development… and of course France.  And probably more than that….

We don’t have all the specifics down yet to begin renting coworking spaces, but feel free to contact us via our personal blogs (linked in the sidebar) if you have additional questions or are interested.

We’re serving!

DuseigneurWe’re getting ready for tonight’s Co-Hopping event, our first real opportunity to show people we’re here! Since one of our main projects will be a wine-mapping community site (and because the company is half-French!), we’ll be  serving a couple of wines from distinct U.S. and French wine regions.  Check it out.
