Web, Wine, & Wisdom

Date & Time: November 10, 6:30-8:30pm @ pariSoma

Are you an entrepreneur, developer, inventor, tech-lover, or part of a start-up? Or perhaps you just enjoy learning about new tech applications while sipping a glass of great French wine. If that sounds like a good night to you, come out to pariSoma for Web Wine & Wisdom, a networking event made especially for that purpose! The two start-ups attending the event are: Tango and VidCaster. Tango is an app which enables you to give video calls with your mobile wherever you are to every place around the world. VidCaster is an easier way to publish your videos online. It gives you a custom video website on your own domain — and automatically distributes your videos to top video sharing sites. Because we love new Web apps and because we enjoy discovering new wines, it seemed natural to mix it all in one event!

For this event, we’ll be focusing on 2 bay area startups:

IdeaKick SF

Tuesday, October 26, 6:00pm

ideakickSF is a meetup where you can come to kick around ideas you have about a new product, service or company. Whether you’ve been working on your idea for a while or you thought of it today, IdeakickSF is the place where you can pitch it to a knowledgable group of startup enthusiasts and get some feedback. Think of it like SF New Tech but minus the requirement that you already have a company or product built.

ideakick meets biweekly to pitch ideas they’ve been thinking about. Think of it as “happy hour meets intelligent conversation” (more info here about the format).

We’re working to build a community of people who are passionate about new ideas and are interested in turning them int actual products and companies. If you’ve ever had one of those “I’ve got a great idea…” moments, this meetup is targeted at you.

• This is a pretty casual event and no one takes themselves too seriously
• There’s no such thing as a bad idea here, just ones that haven’t been done yet
• We’ve got a bunch of cold beer on hand (it helps with creativity ;) )
• We video all the idea pitches so you have something to take with you and show to your friends and whoever else you want
• This is a fairly new organization (since August) so if you have an idea for how we can make it better, by all means speak up!
• We ran out of space here, so please see our website for additional information. You can also read the reviews here to see what other “Kickers” (our word for attendees) have to say about ideakick.

With that background in mind, please RSVP and join us for ideakick!

Product Design Guild

Saturday, October 20, noon-6:00pm

Designers work best in a collaborative, studio based environment. But, as team sizes have gotten smaller, many designers are now acting as the sole designer on a project. This is bad for designers & bad for the profession of design.

The Product Design Guild is a space where designers bring in the work they’re doing in their everyday jobs and engage in a collaborative design process with other designers. It is a place where you can brainstorm ideas, receive informed critique, engage in ideation, get help in improving your comps and all the other activities that are only possible in a group environment.

pariSoma is hosting the pilot of this project to prototype the idea. If you are interested in participating, please sign up (form is at the bottom of the page) and the hosts will get back to you promptly.

This event is sponsored by 500Startups

Please note: registration does not guarantee you a ticket to this event. Invites will be sent early next week.

HR & Tech SF

HR & Tech SF continues to explore the quickly merging realms of social media and recruiting.

Sourcing candidates online has been status quo for the last 15 years. Recruiters and companies post jobs, search databases, and find candidates—pretty simple. But social networking has changed the rules of the game.
We’ve entered an age when our personal and professional lives intersect. So what challenges does that present to recruiters? How do we interact with candidates where they live?

Join us as Mike McTaggart from Dice delves into some of the emerging ways to attract the socially connected technology professional. Mike will present insightful data about candidate behavior online and what it means for employers and recruiters.

On the menu: ideas, exchange, drinks and light snacks.
This event is free, but space is limited. RSVP please
.

About Mike McTaggart
Mike McTaggart has over 25 years of recruiting experience, entrepreneurial success and industry leadership. Mike spent time on the front lines in Silicon Valley in the 1990s working with top employers as the online recruiting space was developing and defining itself. He joined Dice seven years ago.
In his role as a senior sales person at Dice, he works with a wide variety of companies and helps them implement their recruiting strategies. Mike helps guide these organizations through the wide variety of Internet offerings and at the same time he is on the front lines of what may be the single most exciting change in sourcing tech candidates since the inception of job boards – the Dice Talent Network.
