And while CC is primarily known for its work enabling openness and collaboration in the digital world, we’re interested in how the culture of sharing is changing offline life as well. Join us at the next CC Salon, where we’ll present three projects focused on how sharing ideas, knowledge, and even physical space can revolutionize the way people create, work, and play.

The evening’s presenters are Jack Herrick, founder of the collaborative how-to manual wikiHow; Clément Alteresco, COO of innovation/strategic development agency faberNovel, which founded collaborative workspace pariSoma; and Neal Gorenflo, founder of Shareable, a new magazine and online community dedicated to sharing.

You’ll even have the chance to walk away with one of our cheerful new green I Love to Share shirts, which we’ll be selling at the salon.

Hope to see you there!
About Creative Commons:
Creative Commons’ mission is to provide everyone in the world with easy, free, and legal access to knowledge and culture.

Our signature tools are called Creative Commons licenses, which are free copyright licenses that creators can use to offer certain usage rights to the public, while reserving other rights. Millions of people, companies, and institutions throughout the world have used CC licenses to make their work – everything from academic coursework and scientific data to art, music, and journalism – available for free and legal sharing, use, and adaptation.

We are happy to announce that Creative Commons will be holding their next Salon here at pariSoma on April 15, from 7-9.

The program is as follows:

At April’s CC Salon SF, we will hear from three presenters showcasing their innovative international ventures and discussing how CC licenses can be used in international projects to facilitate content sharing and connectivity across borders:

* Miquel Hudin Balsa, Co-Founder of Maneno, a blogging and communication platform built to meet the needs of the Sub-Saharan blogger and writer, allowing those with limited or narrow-bandwidth internet to use a system that is lightweight and straightforward in functionality, but complex enough to allows for translation into multiple languages to reflect the diversity of the African continent.

* David Harris, Executive Director of Global Lives Project, an international collaboration of filmmakers, designers, architects, activists, and institutions to chronicle 24 hours in the life of ten individuals from around the globe, forming an innovative video installation and collaborative online video encyclopedia.

* Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee, Founder and Director of Global Oneness Project, which seeks to explore how the radically simple notion of interconnectedness can be lived in our increasingly complex world by creating a “living library” of films chronicling the courageous lives of people passionate about sustainability, conflict resolution, spirituality, art, economics, indigenous culture, and social justice.

Light refreshments will be provided, and since we rely on the generosity of our community to keep us afloat, we’ll be accepting donations for CC at the door.

CC Salons are global events, and anyone can start one, no matter where you live. We encourage you to check out our resources for starting your own salon in your area.

Joi Ito, Larry Lessig, Eric Steuer, Catharina Maracke and the entire Creative Commons staff gathered with fans and friends February 11 for the first CC Salon ever held at pariSoma.

At pariSoma we’re all independent creative knowledge workers, so we regard CC as a band of heroes and we were thrilled to host them. CC is a nonprofit committed to making it easier for people to share their work and build upon the work of others in the digital age. They’re probably most famous for their free and easy-to-understand content licenses.

Because CC runs offices all over the world, it’s extremely rare for so many CC leaders to gather in one place to speak about what they’ve been up to internationally and in the realms of science, culture, and education. We were proud to have it take place in pariSoma. Stay tuned for more about this event, including a video.

I never drink Kool-Aid and I very rarely fawn over anything. But I’ll attest that Creative Commons is one of the most worthy nonprofits on the planet. The work they do directly and powerfully influences the ability of future generations to innovate in all realms of creative work, and right now their work is more important than ever. Please donate to the cause. And check back here in a couple of months for the next CC Salon in SF. – Sean
