Tuesday, December 7, 6:00pm

ideakickSF is a meetup where you can come to kick around ideas you have about a new product, service or company. Whether you’ve been working on your idea for a while or you thought of it today, IdeakickSF is the place where you can pitch it to a knowledgable group of startup enthusiasts and get some feedback. Think of it like SF New Tech but minus the requirement that you already have a company or product built.

ideakick meets biweekly to pitch ideas they’ve been thinking about. It’s like “happy hour meets intelligent conversation” (more info here about the format).

We’re working to build a community of people who are passionate about new ideas and are interested in turning them int actual products and companies. If you’ve ever had one of those “I’ve got a great idea…” moments, this meetup is targeted at you.

• This is a pretty casual event and no one takes themselves too seriously
• There’s no such thing as a bad idea here, just ones that haven’t been done yet
• We’ve got a bunch of cold beer on hand (it helps with creativity )
• We video all the idea pitches so you have something to take with you and show to your friends and whoever else you want
• This is a fairly new organization (since August) so if you have an idea for how we can make it better, by all means speak up!
• See our website for additional information. You can also read the reviews here to see what other “Kickers” (our word for attendees) have to say about ideakick.

With that background in mind, please RSVP and join us for ideakick!

We want web sites to make it easy to bring your profiles, contacts, and media to them, to share them with other sites, and to gracefully end your relationship with them. This meetup is for business and technologists to get help building better data portability practices, policies, and tools. We’ll discuss the legal and technology layers and anything else to move from wishful thinking to the standard way of doing things.

From the organizer:
The path to power starts in small rooms where ordinary citizens conspire to change the world.

I’ll bring the cupcakes.

On your agenda:

Getting to know each other,
brainstorming projects to improve data portability in our lives,
existing projects where you can help,
suggestions for better organizing The DataPortability Project,
the future of our meetup,
and everything else you think we should discuss.
I’ll also have a kit you can use to to write a Portability Policy. Slides, letters, plans, etc. We can walk through the kit and I’ll be sure to leave links to the material. By the end of the night you’ll be ready to suggest your organization should draft portability policy.

I’m a volunteer, one of twelve elected directors of the Project, and a contributor to the Portability Policy action group. I hope I can answer most questions you have about the DPP.

Come on down and discuss Drupal and Drupal technology with other people who use Drupal, we showcase sites which are using Drupal to help us all see real world applications of Drupal.

Our Tech Sessions cover all areas of Drupal technology and are very informative.

About this meetup:

Rocking into June the San Francisco Drupal user group has great material on the schedule once again.

The case study this month is brought to us by Omar Khan of ISL.

Skillscan.com: With a 10%+ unemployment rate in many states, many former employees are trying to figure out their next career move. For many this means exploring new options. Lesah Beckhusen, a Career Advisor at UCB’s Hass School of Business, developed a simple but deep card sorting tool 25 years ago that lets people profile their transferable skills and preferences in a way that helps them start or change jobs. Used by universities like Harvard and Berkeley, to large firms like ATT and the World Bank, there was no easy way for the average user to access the tool except through their organization or Career Counselor. In late 2009, ISL created an online version of the card sort. It provides single users with the test, neatly delivered in a Flash application that integrates with a User’s profile in Drupal through XML. It allows major corporations to give access to their employees. Career counselors can invite their clients to take the online assessment and share their results online. Individuals can take a test online instead of taking a written test away from home, bringing down market barriers. A single Drupal site integrates all the different types of users and administrators. The result is to give people at various stages of their career a much clearer sense of the options in a fun and interactive way. Drupal’s openness and flexibility allowed us to customize user experiences in great detail. Corporate users don’t see the shopping cart, counselors have access to different content and the e-commerce portion integrates both hard and soft-good sales.

For the Tech Session we have Jon Skulski from Chapter Three who will be presenting:

“Architecting a Drupal Site: From Composition to Completion”

The talk will be a general overview of how to digest a design composition into a Drupal development roadmap. We’ll break down a comp into content types, views and (of course) panels. I’ll discuss some strategies to finding *quality* modules and how to make the decision to write your own code.

If you have some work to show, or work-in-progress, bring it along! Network with the gang and do some projects together!
About this meetup…
Hello, I’m @sidgabriel, the organizer of ARDevMob: The San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley Augmented Reality Meetup group.

Augmented reality is a human interface metaphor. Unlike the “desktop metaphor” which implies a computerized representation of a desk, files and folders, “Augmented Reality” implies that computer science can inform and extend everything in our visual, auditory and cognitive perception of reality. Making every interface relevant to a “first person” narrative perspective.

This group provides space for networking, sharing, presentation and how-to sessions exploring the art and science of Augmented Reality. Where it is now and where it is going. We understand this is a subject of wide interest across many professions. Everyone with an interest in the state of the art is welcome. Presenter, developer or spectator enthusiast you are welcome, we are happy to have you.

This is the monthly San Francisco Drupal users group.

Come on down and discuss Drupal and Drupal technology with other people who use Drupal, we showcase sites which are using Drupal to help us all see real world applications of Drupal.

Our Tech Sessions cover all areas of Drupal technology and are very informative.

About this meetup:
Okay, DrupalCon has passed and we are back to great Drupal content at SFDUG, this month is no exception.

For the showcase site Commerce Guys will be showing an Open Atrium site built for the Social Entrepreneur Innovators Network at Santa Clara University. Open Atrium is a powerful Drupal install profile which is great for deploying groups. We deployed this site on EC2 using the mercury installation. This will be a super presenation for anyone who has thought about deploying an Atrium Powered web site.

The technical showcase will be a demonstration of Drupal Gardens and the goodness its capable of. Drupal gardens is the acquia hosted solution for quick Drupal sites. Kieran Lal will be showing us the ropes. If you have always wondered about what Drupal Gardens is then this is for you.

I will go over some highlights and stats from the past Drupalcon which should be interesting.

Look forward to seeing you there!!
